The MFM Internship Program is underway for the summer of 2025. Get to know each of the interns and their interests by reading below! Inspired by an activity during the first week of the program with the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary, the interns also used their artistic abilities to draw a marine organism that most interests them.
Audrey McCarty
Hello my name is Audrey. I am a Makah member, and I go to Neah Bay high schoo.I am going into my senior year. I am excited about this summer internship program. I have heard a lot of good things about this internship. I am happy to experience it this year, and it is awesome that I am learning the science behind my culture.

Angel Parker
Hello, my name is Angel Parker. I just graduated from high school in 2025. I moved here in 2023 from Lummi Nation. I’ve learned a lot from moving here. I also feel like some people know me from my dad, Glen Parker. I wanted to be a part of this internship because I wanted to learn what’s really out there for me and what my family does for a living. Most of the experience I’ve had or even got was filleting fish and also smoking fish. But also cleaning off the boat when the fisherman got done with halibut fishing, to help them out since they were tired after a long time at sea. The thing I liked was collecting olive shells with my auntie and helping her sand down the holes, and also helping polish them. I’m glad that I got this internship so I can learn more about my tribe.

MarKeith Penn
My name is Markeith, and I’ve been living in Neah Bay for around two years. Since I’ve moved here, I have started to learn the importance of culture and family, so when I graduate from college, I want to come back here and help the community in any way I can. I moved here in my junior year and just recently graduated from high school. This internship is me testing the waters to see what I want to do as a career in the future. I love all types of art, but my favorite ones are either music or photography. As of right now, my plans are to go to school for my degree in landscape architecture and come back to Neah Bay and help the community with my knowledge. One of the things I am most excited about in the internship is staying on Tatoosh Island for a few days.

Liliana Scordino
Hello, my name is Liliana Scordino, and I am a new intern for the Makah Fisheries. I am entering my junior year of high school this upcoming fall, but I am enrolled in the Running Start Program at Peninsula College, so I will be taking all of my classes in person at Port Angeles. By completing this path, I will graduate high school with my AA or AS, and continue on whatever path snags my interest.
I’m looking forward to the great opportunity to not just learn, engage, and work with the environment, but also learn about additional career path possibilities. I have several family members in this field whom I look up to, such as my parents, Jonathan Scordino and Adrianne Akmajian. Thanks to them, I have been introduced to the topic of marine life at a very early age. The subject has always been in my life, and I plan on keeping it that way. However, now I don’t only want to appreciate the beautiful scenery surrounding my home, but I want to fully understand it.
Watching the smallest changes to ecosystems and seeing how they affect the entire ocean is truly a fascinating and thought-provoking occurrence. I’m excited for the upcoming events, learning opportunities, and projects in the weeks to follow with my fellow interns.
