Welcome to the official blog for the Makah Fisheries Management (MFM) Summer Internship Program! We are excited to share with the community the incredible work these interns accomplish and let their friends and family follow along with their progress.
Each year, MFM hires promising students in high school or early in their college career to introduce them to natural resource management, fisheries, and environmental science. In 2018, thanks to funding from the Bonneville Power Administration, our internship programming was expanded to include an independent research project to be completed by each student. The interns rose to the challenge, contributing sound science to MFM’s body of work and building their own capacity to one day be the environmental leaders of the Makah Tribe. In the years since, we have been funded through a variety of other sources, including the BPA Tribal Education Capacity Building grant program, the BIA Tribal Youth Initiative program, and grant funding from the National Science Foundation secured by our partners from the University of Chicago.
